Davis School District West Clinton Elementary School – West Clinton, Utah
This innovative addition to an existing traditionally-designed elementary school provides new spaces for specialty learning opportunities as well as providing 10 new
classrooms with associated support facilities. Specialty teaching spaces to accommodate arts and science programs along with a raised platform seating/lecture/reading
area were incorporated into the interior of the building, but were provided with natural daylighting through a large translucent atrium skyroof and glass block clerestory windows.
These spaces were integrated with the building’s circulation system to provide a open flowing and visually stimulating plan configuration which complemented the existing school facility.
The addition wraps the corner of a site with two street frontages and provides a fresh new appearance for this 20 year old facility. The street corner addition also presented an
opportunity to resolve existing site circulation problems by segregating bus, private vehicular and pedestrian traffic for greater student safety.
The project also includes the upgrading of existing power and lighting systems, and the addition of a fire sprinkling and air conditioning systems, all of which was accomplished
while the building was occupied and functioning.
