Whittier
Elementary School, Granite School District - West Valley City,
Utah
The second elementary school Architectural Nexus designed
for Granite School District using our unique prototype, Whittier
Elementary School sports the "classroom of the future".
The
School is designed with the latest technologies and interactive
methods to meet the primary goal for this facility, which
is to provide an effective environment conducive to creative
thinking, exploration, learning and teaching for the benefit
of students. The organizational configuration of the school
facility uses a circular "Main Street" to connect major building
entrances, as well as the circular corridor provides an unfolding
progression to access the school's major functional elements
including the Main Office, two Classroom clusters, the Media
Center, and Gymnasium.
Each classroom cluster is organized with a loop corridor around
a central support core which houses a Teacher Planning Area, a
Large Group Instruction (Kiva) Room to accommodate full grade
level activities, as well as group restrooms and support
facilities. Classroom layouts are organized to facilitate 4 to 5
simultaneous small group learning activities, but also with space
for full class assembly.
