Cache County Courthouse Historic Restoration/Renovation - Logan, Utah

The 1880’s marked the construction of a new courthouse for Cache County. Additions in 1905 and 1917 provided space for its continued use. However, the years were not so kind to the building, once labeled as “a fine and imposing structure”. Unfavorable building costs resulted in piece-meal ‘up-grades’ as new needs were established.

Architects were retained to develop a feasibility study for the county’s needs. Various methods for seismic retrofit were considered. The result was an ‘inside-out” wood frame / brick veneer structure. Exterior paint was removed, roof, ceiling, and floor diaphragms were created, floors raised and basement lowered to allow for installation of new mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems.

With the courthouse restored, the county was able to provide space, not only for Administrative and Council offices, but also for the county attorneys, victim’s advocates, and the Cache Tourist Council, thus consolidating all county functions into the new administration building and the historic Courthouse.
