The Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Tenth Ward Historic Complex - Salt Lake
City, Utah
The three historic buildings that comprise Salt Lake City's
Tenth Ward are; the 1873 meetinghouse, the 1887 schoolhouse,
and the 1909 chapel. In 1995, the LDS Church retained Architectural
Nexus to determine the feasibility of restoring and renovating
the Tenth Ward Buildings into a functioning meetinghouse facility.
Under the direction of Bud Bailey Construction, General Contractor,
construction for the $3 million renovation project began in
October 1997, and on January 2, 2000, President Hinckley returned
to the historic Tenth Ward setting to rededicate the renovated
Tenth Ward for its next 100 years of service.
Architectural
Nexus received the prestigious Heritage Award of Merit in
2000 for the historic preservation of Utah's history and the
Salt Lake City Landmark Commission's Award of Merit in 2001.
