Arcaris Genetics Laboratory, University of Utah Research Park - Salt Lake City, Utah

Arcaris Genetics (formerly Ventana Genetics) occupies the third floor of the Paradigm 1 office building designed by Architectural Nexus. Architectural Nexus designed the 25,000 S.F. space, which is approximately 70% Genetics Research and Development Laboratory with the balance serving administrative functions, while Architectural Nexus interior designers provided an atmosphere unlike any other laboratory.

Nexus designed a functional lab while successfully eliminating the sterile aesthetic that often accompanies a medical or research laboratory. Nexus Interiors created a unique aesthetic derived from genetic icons (DNA and the GFP protein) which were applied in subtle details such as the Y chromosome cabinetry hardware, a 20 foot DNA helix flooring inlays, and the undulating veneer feature wall at the entry (also inspired by the DNA helix) and yet maintaining a conservative budget.
