OSHA
Salt Lake Technical Center - Sandy, Utah
The National OSHA Laboratory is a 76,000 S.F. design/build project developed jointly with Jacobsen Construction and
Architectural Nexus. This facility exists for testing of materials and processes for the workplace. The project
includes 6 conference rooms and a seminar/training room that will seat 140. The main entry and lobby are located
at the apex of the two wings (office and Research) of the building.
The overall design incorporates extensive
use of skylights and clerestory windows above all main hallways. These daylit hallways become key landmarks that
simplify way finding throughout the building and add an outside connection to the interior.
The project has recently received a LEED "Silver" rating from the United States Green Building Council. A few of the “green” principles that have been incorporated into this project include: the use of drought
resistant indigenous plantings, specifying highly efficient HVAC equipment that uses no SFC refrigerants, light colored
roofing materials, clerestory windows and skylights for daylighting and incorporating the design of an exterior sunshade.
