Gene
Fullmer Recreation Center - West Jordan City, Utah
Architectural Nexus designed this multi-use recreation center
containing two basketball courts, aerobic rooms, gymnasium,
and natatorium with a 6 lane, 25 yard lap pool including multi-water
toy leisure pool and a 3-loop water slide.
Included
in the design is a connected, but separate Senior Citizen
Center with four multi-purpose rooms, a pool room, computer
center and kitchen facilities as well as a licensed daycare
center that is associated with the recreation center and includes
a "tot-lock" fenced area where the children can play safely
outside. Special attention was given to the programming and
design of the facility to accommodate the different needs
of the user groups that would frequent the facility. Senior
citizens, adults, and children would all use the facility
in a different capacity. Pedestrian flow through the facility
and space adjacencies were thoroughly thought out and designed
for both the senior center and the recreation center.
The Gene Fullmer Recreation and Senior Center received
the Excellence in Masonry - Design Award from the Utah Masonry
Council in 2002.
