IHC Core Laboratory – Murray, Utah

The new Core Laboratory for the Urban Central Region of Intermountain Health Care was designed to augment laboratory capabilities to better meet the needs of the Intermountain Health Care system of hospitals and clinics. The facility is located on a site designed in the master plan for the new Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah.

The laboratory has been designed to achieve several program objectives:

• Serve the increased workload generated by growth in laboratory outreach testing.
• Provide for further consolidation of specialized testing within the IHC laboratory system.
• Incorporate automation and robotics in pre-analytical processing and routine testing.
• Centralize specimen processing for all core lab sections.
• Achieve a flexible planning module that can be easily adapted to changes in laboratory systems in the future.
• Optimally size and locate support spaces such as conferencing, research, storage, education and other support spaces.
• Anticipate the capacity to serve demands for cytology, microbiology, and molecular pathology testing for the IHC system.
