SALT LAKE CITY (February 14, 2006) – Architectural Nexus today announced the firm has been selected for the 21st Century Project, a cooperative program sponsored by the Association of College and University Housing Officers International to design the next generation of student housing. Architectural Nexus is the only firm based in the West selected to participate in the project, which commenced at a summit in Chicago in early February. The 21st Century Project will bring together eight leading design firms from around the country, with 90 education professionals – including faculty, administrators, and directors of residence life – and dozens of students representing 40 universities and colleges. Architectural Nexus Senior Principal Ray Bernier, who has extensive experience designing education facilities for universities and colleges in the Intermountain West, is participating on one of four teams researching and designing various rooms and aspects of the next generation student housing facility. The concepts from each of the teams will be presented and used to determine a final design, which will be constructed this summer. Agencies such as the Department of Energy, the Department of Education and the Department of Housing and Urban Development will be recruited for various stages of the project. “The opportunity to participate in the 21st Century Project has important implications for the next generation of students who will attend universities and colleges throughout the state and region,” said Bernier. “Architectural Nexus will have ownership of the ideas and concepts, which will allow us to provide the nation’s leading design expertise, resulting in facilities that will better foster learning and the college experience.” About Architectural Nexus About the Association of College and University Housing Officers International Press Contact: |
