Liberty BLVD

Completed

2017

Location

Salt Lake City, UT

Project Size

330,000 SF

Project Cost

30 M

A true mixed-use and transit-oriented project, Liberty Blvd derives its name from its location along two major Salt Lake City Boulevards, 400 South and 700 East. Liberty BLVD residents are right in the middle of the action, with direct access to light rail, nearby restaurants, and connections to the University and downtown.   Liberty BLVD is a large infill project occupying the old Wonder Bread/Hostess Bakery and distribution center. This site has witnessed the city’s history, from sharing the block with the historical 10th Ward LDS church, to being kitty-corner to Trolley Square, and wrapping around the Hires Big H drive-in that opened in 1959.  To complement the site’s location and historical connections, the design of Liberty BLVD takes on a vibrant, modern aesthetic with a signature material of weathered steel. The steel weaves through the project with bold rusty reds at its public and neighborhood faces. This earthy material reflects the duality of history and modernity within the project.    The Liberty BLVD project is designed as a “wrap” concept. This includes four-stories of residential units surrounding the interior parking structure. The project includes prominent ground floor commercial space for a restaurant. The restaurant includes sidewalk dining and a gallery space showcasing the sites historic past as the Wonder Bread and Hostess Bakery.   Residential units benefit from views of common courtyard spaces, recreational amenities, and amazing views of downtown. About 20% of the residential units are income restricted and the rest are leased at market rates. Amenities include controlled building and parking access, bike storage and repair areas, a street level pool and two roof terraces to soak up the spectacular city views and urban life.
