Tech Ridge

Red rocks and warm weather characterize much of southern Utah. Rising above this landscape is a plateau that was home to a regional airport but will now be redeveloped into a place where people can work, live, and play. Multifamily apartments contain retail spaces on the bottom floors, allowing for local businesses and offices to flourish. Residents can also mountain bike throughout the new neighborhood, and around the plateau. The design intentionally incorporates spaces for community and leans on the surrounding nature to invite people to explore the outdoors.

Standing upon the plateau, Tech Ridge contrasts the surrounding red rock landscape with its blue color scheme. This reflects the push to both remember the site’s history as an airport, yet usher in a new age of innovation and technological advancement. The overall design, including the offices and housing, surrounds a circular pavilion designed by Architectural Nexus. Leaning into a sense of wonder and play, the pavilion includes a sleek metal disc, reminiscent of a flying saucer, that appears to be floating in the air. The buildings have a curved facade that follows the line of the plaza to create a border, fostering a sense of security and community.
