This project was an expansion of the original warehouse and office space built in 2015. The expansion included an additional 149,000 square feet of freezer storage space, 24,000 square feet of cold dock space, and the fit-out of previously unfinished second level tenant office space. Since the expansion connected to the existing warehouse and wrapped around the office portion of the building, an important part of the design was to create a cohesive aesthetic across the entire facility. This meant taking design cues from both the existing warehouse and office space. Blue accents on elements such as the truck canopy and metal coping and gutters creates a horizontal appearance to the front façade, which ties into the blue horizontal banded windows of the office space. The blue downspouts also help to visually break up the façade and avoid a “big box” appearance.
The expansion included an additional 18 dock positions, essentially doubling the capacity of the frozen foods storage. With such an increase of the traffic through the site, we were careful to design the site in such a way as to allow the truck traffic to easily maneuver through the site, into the truck parking area, and to the dock doors where the product would be transferred to and from the facility.
